BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton announced the addition of former Auburn standout Alex Frusina to the Aggies' 2025-26 roster.
"I'm very excited to join a team with a coaching staff that has such a great track record of helping athletes transition from collegiate tennis into pros," Frusina said. "I'm a hometown guy, live about an hour and a half away, and I want to do everything I can to help this team bring the NCAA title to the 12th Man."
The Conroe, Texas native posted a 20-12 singles and 18-13 doubles record in his freshman season with the Tigers. In dual match play, Frusina logged 15-9 singles and 15-11 doubles records, primarily at the two line.
Frusina earned selections to both the SEC All-Freshman and All-SEC Second Team. He also earned a career-high No. 57 ITA singles ranking.
"Alex is the ultimate team player and will make everyone around him much better," Denton said. "He is a fierce competitor on the court and a two-way athlete that will help us tremendously in both singles and doubles. As an added bonus, he went through the rigors of a tough SEC campaign and knows very well what it takes to be successful. We can't wait to get to work with Alex. We recruited him out of high school and now he is coming closer to home. We are thrilled to have him join our team."
Added associate head coach Kevin O'Shea, "I'm so pumped Alex is an Aggie!! We love the variety of his game as he can play many different styles which makes him a coach's dream. It will be special for him to play in front of the 12th Man while his family and friends are in the stands too."
The 5-foot-11 sophomore-to-be was the No. 2 national recruit in the class of 2024, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network, as well as the top prospect in the state of Texas. He won the doubles championship at the 2023 USTA U18 National Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan to earn a spot in the U.S. Open doubles main draw. A veteran of all the junior grand slam tournaments, he advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Junior U.S. Open.
