NASSAU, Bahamas – The Texas A&M men’s basketball team took down the University of Victoria Vikes, 112-88, Monday afternoon in its first game at the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League at the Baha Mar Resort.
Seven players scored in double-figures and 11 made their debut for the Maroon & White as Mackenzie Mgbako led the way with 17 points and PJ Haggerty added 16 points and four steals. Texas A&M scored 42 points off 24 Victoria turnovers and outscored the Vikes 68-36 in the paint.
The Aggies kept their distance in double figures for much of the first half, pulling further away late with a 19-2 scoring spree around the final media timeout of the half. They took a 60-36 lead into the break as Jamie Vinson helped lead the way with 10 points, three rebounds and three blocks. Mgbako and Jalen Shelley also added 10 points apiece.
Texas A&M continued to pull away to start the second half, but Victoria chipped away at the difference to get back within 15 midway through the period. The Vikes made it 87-76 with 7:50 to play, but the Aggies responded with 12 straight points of their own to get their lead back over 20 and close out the win.
