
Texas A&M Opens SEC Play Hosting LSU

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men's basketball team remains at Reed Arena Saturday to open SEC play hosting LSU for a 3 p.m. tip.
The Maroon & White closed out non-conference action with a 111-82 win over Prairie View Monday to set a new school record with six 100-point games already this season. Rashaun Agee led the way with 19 points and 13 rebounds to register his fifth double-double of the year. Marcus Hill added 16 points in 16 minutes of action, shooting 83-percent (5-6) from the field. The Aggies made it back-to-back games with 50-plus points in the paint after tallying 52 points down low against Prairie View.
Texas A&M leads the country averaging 22.1 assists per game on the year and recently matched its season high with 32 assists in the win over East Texas A&M. Jacari Lane has been leading the way in the category tallying 47 assists while only committing 11 turnovers on the year. His 4.3 assist/turnover ratio is the best in the SEC and ranks 11th nationally.
The Aggies also rank No. 1 in the nation in bench points, averaging 44.1 per game. They have seen at least 40 points come from non-starters in nine games this season, tallying 45 against Prairie View. Pop Isaacs has led the way over the last two games, going 5-of-7 from 3-point range to score 15 points against East Texas A&M before a 13-point performance against the Panthers.
The Maroon & White have been aggressive on both ends of the floor throughout the year. They closed out non-conference action scoring over 110 points in each of the last three games to up their season average to 96.2 points per game, good for fourth in the country. They also rank among the top-10 in the nation averaging 11.6 made 3-pointers per game. On the defensive end, Texas A&M sits in fourth among Power 4 teams forcing 16.4 turnovers per game.
LSU is riding a four-game win streak into the conference opener, boasting a 12-1 record on the year after topping Southern Miss 90-62 earlier in the week. Saturday marks the 53rd all-time meeting between the Aggies and Tigers. LSU has the slight edge in the series, 29-23, that dates back to 1916-17, but Texas A&M has claimed five of the last six meetings, including a 68-57 victory at Reed Arena a season ago.
