Texas A&M Falls to Alabama in 2026 Home Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M swimming & diving team fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday afternoon at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium 169-131 on the women's side and 158.5-141.5 on the men's side.
Leading the way for the Aggies was fifth-year senior Munzy Kabbara with a victory in the 200 butterfly in a lifetime best and NCAA qualifying standard time of 1:43.27. He also provided a runner-up effort in the 200 backstroke with another lifetime-best and qualifying standard time of 1:41.69. Kabbara had another first-place finish in the 200 IM in 1:44.07.
Senior Kaitlyn Owens also logged a NCAA qualifying cut in the 100 backstroke in a lifetime-best 51.06. The time moved Owens to No. 3 in the school record book, behind only Miranda Grana and Paige Miller.
Also chipping in victories for the women was junior transfer Ava Whitaker, junior Hannah O'Leary, and senior Giulia Goerigk. Whitaker won the 200 butterfly in 1:55.28; Hannah O'Leary took gold in the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.73 and Giulia Goerigk placed first in the 200 IM in 1:59.18.
On the men's side juniors Ben Scholl and Logan Brown also provided first- place finishes in the 100 freestyle in 43.46 and the 200 breaststroke in 1:55.53, respectively.
Texas A&M opened the meet with the women placing second in the 200 medley relay in 1:36.15 with the quartet of Owens, sophomore Ella McQuinn, Whitaker, and freshman Eloise Williamson. The men also finished second with the foursome of Brown, junior Will Heck, Scholl, and sophomore Ben Sytsma touching in 1:25.80.
The Aggie divers were led by freshman Emilio Trevino winning the men's 1-meter and 3-meter with scores of 359.78 and 405.00, respectively. Sophomore Bridget Foster won the women's 1-meter with a score of 297.98 and had a runner up effort in the 3-meter with a score of 282.68. Senior Joslyn Oakley was victorious in the women's 3-meter with a score of 283.95.
The Maroon & White closed out the meet with men winning the 400 free relay with the quartet of Sytsma, Scholl, freshman Alejandro Michelena, and junior Daniil Pancerevas finishing in 2:52.35. The women placed second in 3:16.88 with the foursome of McQuinn, Owens, Williamson, and freshman Reagan Sherrard.
