Aggies Picked Third in SEC Preseason Coaches Poll
Jan 08, 2026 | Men's Tennis
BIRMINGHAM – The Texas A&M men's tennis team was projected to finish third in conference play by the league's coaches, the SEC announced Thursday.
The Aggies finished fourth in the league last season with a 9-5 conference record. Sophomore Theo Papamalamis returns for the Maroon & White after earning First Team All-SEC and All-Freshman nods in his first season in Aggieland. The France native ended his initial collegiate campaign at No. 30 in the ITA singles rankings and with an 8-3 conference record at the top of the lineup.
The team's top two singles victories leaders are also back on the court for the Aggies. Junior Tiago Pires led the team with 22 singles wins, while senior Togan Tokac produced 19 victories, including a perfect 8-0 SEC worksheet.
Head coach Steve Denton, in his 20th season at the helm of the Aggies, brought in a pair of talented transfers in sophomore Alex Frusina from Auburn and junior Kholo Montsi from Oklahoma. Frusina was a First Team All-SEC pick and named to the league's All-Freshman team last year and earned a trip to the NCAA Championships last fall. Montsi comes to College Station after posting 30 singles victories in two seasons with the Sooners.
The Maroon & White trailed Texas and Mississippi State in the coaches' predictions, followed by Kentucky and Oklahoma to round out the top five.
The Aggies open SEC play on February 21 against Ole Miss at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
