- Freshman Lucas Ackermann led from start-to-finish for his first collegiate victory in the men’s 200 breaststroke.
COLLEGE STATION – Victories by Texas A&M newcomers Ella McWhorter, Sydney Guidara and Lucas Ackermann highlighted the Aggies’ SEC dual meet against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday at the Rec Center Natatorium. In the team standings, the Bulldogs won 197-94 on the women's side and 222-78 for the men.
McWhorter, a freshman from Keller, Texas, won the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:00.45, while Guidara, a senior transfer from North Texas, swept the women’s 1- and 3-meter springboard dives. On the men’s side, Ackermann, a freshman from Franklin, Indiana, dominated the 200 breaststroke by over two seconds with a winning time of 1:58.18.
In the 1000-yard free, Fernanda Elizondo Cabrera took 4th with a time of 10:01:80. On the men’s side, Gideon Swan took third with a time of 9:10:77 and Bucky Gettys placed fourth with a posted time of 9:17:14. Daniel Eichel and Jack Boysen both recorded close runner up finishes, with Eichel’s time of 1:37:08 in the men’s 200 free and Boysen’s time of 20.01 in the men’s 50 free.
The Aggies swept places 2-3-4 in the men’s 100 backstroke. John Simmons took a close second with a time of 47.29, Clark Coyle followed close behind in third place in 47.84, and Mason Leach touched the wall at 48.21. Mason Francis and Ackermann tied for second in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 54.36.
In the 1-meter diving event, Guidara brought the Aggies a win with a standout performance score of 307.35. In addition, Bridget Foster earned a runner-up finish with a score of 280.73. Guidara also won the 3-meter with a winning score of 334.88.
The Maroon & White closed out the meet with the 400-yard freestyle relay. The women’s team placed second in 3:22:34, while the men’s team placed third with a posted time of 2:59:11.

The Aggies will travel to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers on Friday, Oct. 23. Action starts at 5 p.m. in the LSU Natatorium.
