DALLAS – The Texas A&M men’s basketball team is set to clash with SMU in a preseason exhibition Sunday at Moody Coliseum. Tip is set for 1 p.m.

The Maroon & White return six players from a year ago and have added 11 newcomers to the roster. Mackenzie Mgbako returns to the court after an injury cut his first season in the Maroon & White short. Mgbako started all seven games he played in last year, averaging 10.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in that span. Prior to arriving in Aggieland, he spent two seasons at Indiana, starting 31 of the team’s 32 games as a sophomore. He averaged 12.2 points and 4.6 rebounds, scoring in double figures 19 times.

PJ Haggerty highlights the group of newcomers, joining the Aggies after spending the 2025-26 season at Kansas State where he started all 31 games he appeared in. Haggerty, who was already named to the Preseason All-SEC Third Team by the media, ranked fourth nationally and second in the Big 12 last year averaging 23.4 points per game, while adding 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists for the Wildcats. He tallied five 30-point games on the year, scoring a season-high 37 against Mississippi State.

Fans got their first glimpse of the 2026-27 squad in August when the Aggies participated in the Baha Mar Summer League. Texas A&M tallied over 300 points and boasted a 52-point margin of victory as it went 3-0 on the week. Mgbako led the way for the Aggies, averaging 19 points in just 14.7 minutes per game on the week.

Head coach Bucky McMillan enters year two at the helm in Aggieland after guiding the Maroon & White to a 22-12 overall record and an 11-7 mark in SEC play, good for a fourth-place finish in the league. They secured their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth consecutive 20-win season. The Aggies ranked among the top-15 teams in the nation in scoring offense (86.1 points), assists (18.1), 3-pointers made (10.8) and bench points (35.6) a year ago.
