Texas A&M looks ahead to next week's SEC Basketball Tipoff, bringing head coach Bucky McMillan, Mackenzie Mgbako--who attended the event last season--and newcomer PJ Haggerty to talk about offseason prep and the year ahead.
The annual event is held just outside Birmingham. This year's festivities will take place on Wednesday (Oct. 14) with SEC Network providing wall-to-wall coverage.
Entering his second season in Aggieland, McMillian guided Texas A&M to its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2025-26, posting a 22-11 overall mark and fourth-place finish in the SEC. The Maroon & White ranked among the top-15 teams in the nation in scoring offense (86.1 points), assists (18.1), 3-pointers made (10.8) and bench points (35.6).
Mgbako returns for the Aggies after averaging 10.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in seven games before an injury ended his season. During the team’s summer exhibitions at the Baha Mar Summer League, Mgbako led the way in all three games, averaging 19.0 points through three games.
Texas A&M added 10 newcomers in the offseason, including Haggerty from Kansas State, who was fourth in the nation and leads all returners with 23.4 points per game last season. He earned Big 12 Honorable Mention and AP All-America Honorable Mention recognition by season’s end.
