No. 7 Aggies in Second After Day One of Therese Hession Regional Challenge
Feb 01, 2026 | Women's Golf
PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The No. 7 Texas A&M women's golf team finished the opening round of the Therese Hession Regional Challenge in second place after shooting 2-over 286 Sunday and was led by freshman Brynn Kort, who shot a 3-under 68 to rank second at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
"I'm really impressed with the start we got off to in our round today," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "I thought we really fought hard through our round today. This golf course doesn't give much at all. We really focused on competing today and applying everything that we have put an importance on since school started. I am excited for the challenges ahead of us the next two days."
No. 2 UCLA (-2) concluded the opening day's action in first place, leading the Aggies in second by four strokes. Texas A&M gave itself some breathing room from the rest of the pack, as it was followed by No. 9 Pepperdine (+6) and No. 11 Texas (+6) who were tied for third and No. 6 Florida (+8) who wrapped up the top five.
Kort led the Maroon & White contingent recording birdies on Nos. 3, 9, 10 and 15, and had only one lone bogey. She enters the second day of competition one shot back of Kansas' Kinslea Jones.
Vanessa Borovilos also shot under par, logging a 2-under 69 finish through the opening 18 holes. Following a 1-over front nine, she birdied four holes on her way to the clubhouse to be tied for third.
Sky Sudberry ended the first round tied for 36th at 3-over 74, while Natalie Yen was right behind at 4-over 75 which tied her for 44th. Louise Reau (+7) rounded out the lineup tied for 68th.
