Borovilos Leads Aggies to Top Spot Heading into Final Round

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Texas A&M's Vanessa Borovilos shot a 4-under 68 in the second round of the Moon Golf Invitational Monday, vaulting herself into solo first and keeping the No. 6 ranked Aggies in the top spot heading into the final round.
"We slept on a lead and played well today," Head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "Today was probably not our best golf as a team, but we gutted it out and played the golf course from a wind direction that we had not seen yet. I am proud of the team today because it was not easy and we are in a position to fight for a title tomorrow."
The Maroon & White (-4) fired a 1-under 287 as a team which helped the program keep a hold of first place after 36 holes. The Aggies were three shots ahead of No. 8 Auburn (-1) while No. 7 Wake Forest (+5), No. 16 Mississippi State (+6) and No. 22 Tennessee (+9) completed the top five.
If Texas A&M secures the team victory Tuesday, it will be its fifth tournament championship of the season, tying the program record set during the 2022-23 campaign.
Borovilos birdied the first two holes of the day before a bogey on No. 3 ended the streak. The sophomore shot par-or-better on the remaining 15 holes with three birds to go 4-under 68 for the round. The score helped the Canadian move into solo first with a three-shot cushion on Mississippi State's Izzy Pellot (-3). Borovilos was 6-under 138 thru 36 holes and is vying for her first individual championship of the year and second of her career.
Louise Reau was tied for fifth after Monday's round after recording a 1-under 71. Her scoresheet brought her to 1-under 143 for the tournament. Natalie Yen moved up four spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 12th with an even par round that kept her at 1-over 145 thru two rounds.
Sky Sudberry was tied for 17th at 2-over 146 while freshman Brynn Kort held onto a share for 56th to round out the lineup.
The Aggies return to the course at 8 a.m. for a shotgun start. Live stats can be found at scoreboard.clippd.com.
