No. 23 Baseball Claims Midweek Win Over Texas State, 9-6

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – No. 23 Texas A&M downed Texas State, 9-6, behind eight hits and three home runs Tuesday night from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
After falling behind, 4-0, in the second inning, the Aggies (17-3) spotted seven runs in the fourth to claim the lead. Chris Hacopian put the Maroon & White on the board with a solo shot to left field. On a full count with two outs and the bases loaded, Boston Kellner put the Aggies within reach with a two-RBI single to left. Gavin Grahovac lined a single up the middle to plate two runs and put the home team in front. Caden Sorrell put a cap on the frame with a frozen rope two-run homer to left field, leaving the bat at 112 miles per hour with an 18-degree launch angle.
The Bobcats (12-8) answered in the fifth inning with a two spot to make it a one-run ballgame. In the seventh inning, Sorrell drove his second long ball of the game to the opposite field, giving the Maroon & White a 9-6 advantage.
Cole Hubert was tabbed the starter for the first time in his career. The freshman went three up, three down with two strikeouts in the first inning, but could only manage one out in the second before being relieved. Gavin Lyons (2-0) was the first out of the bullpen for the Aggies. The sophomore right-hander earned the win and tossed 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three.
Juan Vargas was called upon with two outs in the fifth inning, inducing a groundout on one pitch. The Panama City, Panama, native threw 2.0 innings without allowing a baserunner and struck out a pair. Ethan Darden entered in the seventh, giving the home team 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Clayton Freshcorn earned his fourth save of the year, recording the last three outs and punching out one batter.
