
Freshcorn, Grahovac Named Academic All-Americans by College Sports Communicators

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Texas A&M relief pitcher Clayton Freshcorn and first baseman Gavin Grahovac were selected as Academic All-Americans by College Sports Communicators Tuesday morning. Grahovac earned a selection to the first team and Freshcorn was named to the second team.
Freshcorn registered a 3.69 GPA as a junior agricultural leadership and development major. On the mound, the right-hander posted a 4-3 record in 27 appearances and registered a 2.82 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. He struck out 56 batters in 54.1 innings pitched, issuing just six walks. The Waller, Texas, native earned 12 saves, which ranked first in the SEC and tied for the third most in a single season in Texas A&M baseball history. His seven saves in conference play tied for the most among all SEC arms, while nine of his 12 saves were outings of multiple innings.
The Aggies' closer adds to his list of postseason accolades after being named a finalist for the Stopper of the Year Award and collected All-America honors from the National College Baseball Writers Association and ABCA/Rawlings.
Grahovac turned in a 3.85 GPA as a junior sport management major. On the field, he boasted a .339/.429/.722 slash line with 74 RBI and a team-high 76 runs scored. The junior belted 16 doubles, 22 home runs, three triples and swiped five bags. He led the SEC in league play in slugging percentage (.754), home runs (13), RBI (43) and runs scored (40) in 29 starts. His 1.172 OPS in league play ranked third in the conference. A native of Orange, California, Grahovac recorded a team-best 26 multi-hit games and logged 20 multi-RBI performances.
His success on and off the field was recognized earlier this year after being named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Grahovac also earned All-America recognition from the NCBWA and Baseball America.
To be eligible for Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). To be athletically eligible, baseball student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of their institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of their institution's games. Pitchers must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35.0 innings.
