NEW ORLEANS – Texas A&M track & field's Zaza Nnamdi was named to The Bowerman Watch List, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday.
Nnamdi makes his first appearance on The Bowerman Watch List since joining the Aggies this year. The senior has been a standout in the javelin all season, leading to a personal-best mark of 84.68m/277-10 at the Tom Jones Memorial. His throw landed him at No. 4 in NCAA history and No. 7 in African history.
Most recently Nnamdi added an SEC title to his impressive resume, after taking gold in Auburn last week. The Awka, Nigeria, native recorded a toss of 81.20m/266-5 to ensure his win. That victory marks his fourth-consecutive conference javelin title after winning his first three in the Big 12.
Nnamdi's recognition for the award marks A&M's 15th male athlete to be named to The Bowerman Watch List, which ranks second among all schools in the history of the award.
The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009 and is named after former University of Oregon coach Bill Bowerman, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation.
