Aggies Start Strong on Opening Day of 44 Farms Team Invitational

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team's combined event group began action at the 44 Farms Team Invitational Thursday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
The Maroon & White's multi-event athletes had a strong opening-day showing, as they broke six personal bests as a unit. Blake Harris highlighted the group, as he enters the final day of the men's decathlon in second, while Bradie Menegatti ranks fourth heading into the last three events of the women's heptathlon.
Harris started his decathlon campaign on the front foot, securing 4,014 points through the first five events. He kickstarted his day winning the 100m with a time of 10.72 and followed that up with seventh in the long jump (7.03m/23-0.75), fourth in the shot put with a career-best toss (13.46m/44-2), sixth in the high jump (1.90m/6-2.75) and concluded with a time of 49.03 in the 400m which was good for second in the event.
Menegatti topped the Aggie contingent for the women, as the freshman accumulated 3,312 points through four events. She recorded a pair of personal bests in the 100m hurdles (14.38) and shot put (12.13m/39-9.75), while adding an all-conditions best in the 200m (25.13) and rounded out the results with a leap of 1.69m/5-6.5 in the high jump. A&M's Mercy Freeman and Rylee Lydon hold 14th (3,029) and 20th (2,959), respectively, after day one.
