David Weir is in his 29th year as an athletic trainer for Texas A&M University. A licensed athletic trainer by the state of Texas, certified nationally by the Board of Certification. Currently, David works with Texas A&M Equestrian, Men’s and Women’s Golf. Prior to this, he was the head athletic trainer for football for 13 years with more than 25 years of football experience. He also spent six seasons as the baseball athletic trainer during his tenure with the Aggies.
The Brenham native began his athletic training career as a high school student at Brenham High School. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1990 with a degree in Kinesiology and Health. He is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
He has served on numerous national committees including National Athletic Trainer’s Association Public Relations, College and University. He has served as Liaison to the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and the American Football Coaches Association. He has chaired several committees for the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association. In 2006, Texas Governor, Rick Perry appointed him as a member of the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers for the State of Texas. In 2007, Governor Perry appointed him Chair of this board. He continues to serve in this position. This board regulates all athletic trainers in the State of Texas.
In addition to his clinical duties in caring for student athletes, he serves as the athletics department concussion manager. He also supervises the undergraduate athletic training aid program.
Weir is married to the former Judy Bigbie (A&M Class of '89), a school teacher at Pebble Creek Elementary in College Station. The couple has two daughters-Ashley, Class of 2016, and Heather. When possible, Weir loves fish, and play golf, and ride horses. As a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan, Weir is a deacon, serves as television director/producer for television broadcast, and is an adult bible class co-director.
