Tyler Pounds joined the athletics department in February 2020 as assistant director of athletics communications for the Texas A&M men's and women's track & field teams. He was elevated to associate director in spring 2023 to oversee communications for the Aggie softball program while also assisting with football.
In his first year in Aggieland, with help from 12thMan Creative, he made an immediate impact increasing the track & field's social media presence across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Pounds increased the @aggietfxc instagram engagements by 68% that generated nearly 5.4 million impressions. Engagements also grew on Twitter by 10% and on Facebook the engagement rate per impression grew by 18.3%.
Pounds came to Texas A&M from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he served as the primary contact for baseball, women’s soccer, cross country and indoor track & field. He also provided media content through graphic design, photography and videography.
Before working at Oral Roberts, he served as a graduate assistant in the strategic communications department at Wichita State University. During his time with the Shockers he served as the primary contact for the cross country and track & field programs, as well as assisting baseball, softball and men's and women's basketball.
Prior to working in collegiate athletics, Pounds was a facilities manager at Hutchinson First Church of the Nazarene in Kansas for nearly six years where he assisted in scheduling and setting up events as well as maintaining the upkeep of the 20,000-square-foot facility.
Pounds, a native of Angleton, Texas, earned his bachelor’s (2017) and master’s (2019) degrees in sport management from Wichita State University. He and his wife, Susan, reside in College Station with their son, Bennett, daughter, Harper, and dog, Marley.
