Lyle Wolf enters his fifth season as an assistant coach Texas A&M in 2023-24 and has more than a decade of experience on head coach Buzz Williams’ staffs at Marquette, Virginia Tech and Texas A&M.
A strong recruiter and offensive strategist, Wolf excels in building relationships and organizational leadership. He has played a key role in the Texas A&M’s success since his arrival in Aggieland. Texas A&M has won 25 games or more in back-to-back seasons for the second time in school history with 25 wins in 2022-23 following 27 victories from 2021-22. The 52 wins over the past two seasons matched the program’s top two-year win total.
Additionally, Texas A&M has reached the final of the SEC Tournament the past two seasons for the first time since joining the elite league in 2012-13. In 2022-23, the Aggies made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in five seasons on the heels of the program’s first-ever appearance in the NIT Championship game.
Wolf came to Texas A&M after a five-year stint at Virginia Tech. He was promoted to director of basketball operations in 2018-19 when the Hokies posted a 26-9 record and made to a run to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. Previously, Wolf served as the assistant to the head coach and director of student-athlete development. Wolf contributed to the program’s turnaround as Virginia Tech made four postseason appearances including three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Wolf began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant on Williams’ staff at Marquette. He assisted in the day-to-day operations of the program and supervised the team’s managerial staff before obtaining a master’s degree in sports leadership in the spring of 2014.
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Wolf earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Transylvania (Ky.) University in 2010. He was a member of the Transylvania basketball team in 2006-07. Following graduation, Wolf served as the junior varsity basketball coach at Sayre School in Lexington in 2011-12.
Wolf earned his Doctorate of Education in global sports leadership from East Tennessee State in March 2018.
Wolf and his wife, Perren, have a son, Bauer.
