Rick Meyers
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Texas Tennis Hall of Fame member Rick Meyers joined the Texas A&M men’s tennis coaching staff in the Fall of 2016, joining Head Coach Steve Denton and Assistant Coach Kevin O’Shea to complete the staff.
“I have known Rick for a long time, having competed against each other in our tennis playing days,” Denton said. “Rick was a fierce competitor in his day and is known as one of the top coaches in our part of the country. Our team will benefit greatly from the wealth of knowledge and experience he possesses. He is a great addition to our team.”
“I've been around a long time and I've always wanted to coach Division I college tennis,” Meyers said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to coach at Texas A&M alongside Steve Denton and Kevin O'Shea whom I have always had the utmost respect for. I can't wait to get started working with the team.”
Meyers was inducted into the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame in 2008. The Abilene, Texas native was an All-Southwest Conference selection four times at TCU before turning professional and competing in all four Grand Slams. The right-hander competed on the tour for three seasons, reaching as high as No. 280 in the world.
As a volunteer for USTA-Texas and the USTA, he helped develop the current Texas junior tournament format and ranking system. Additionally, Meyers started a professional tournament in his hometown that featured American tennis legends Andre Agassi and Jim Courier. Meyers has taught tennis for the past 34 years, coaching three players currently on the professional circuit and 131 players that went on to earn college scholarships.
