Howard Gray serves Texas A&M Athletics as Associate Athletics Director for Performance, a position he has held since 2020. Gray joined the Aggies as Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Science in the summer of 2014, first overseeing sports science support for the Football team before transitioning Sports Science into an Athletics Department-wide unit in 2018.
As Associate Athletics Director for Performance, Gray oversees the units of Performance Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning and Sports Science. He also operates as a key facilitator or co-leader for various interdisciplinary projects such as the Performance & Wellness Leadership Team, collective professional development initiatives, Athletics’ Research Review Team, and our Performance & Wellness Group structures serving all Aggie teams.
Branching outside of the Athletics Department, Gray also heads up collaboration with the Huffines Institute, Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management, and other partners both on and off-campus. Additionally, Gray has been an active member of a number of faculty search committees, contributed to curriculum development with Kinesiology, and is a Huffines Institute Advisory Board member.
Prior to moving to Texas, Gray was an Assistant Strength and Speed Coach at Florida State University where he worked primarily with Soccer, Swim & Dive and Sport Science. He joined the Seminoles from the Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). At ETSU Gray worked as Coaching Manager, overseeing a wide range of performance-related projects alongside further academic studies.
Gray started his career working in soccer, including stints with two professional teams in England. He was an Intern Sports Scientist for Reading Football Club before transitioning to a full-time Strength and Conditioning role at Crystal Palace Football Club.
Gray is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also an Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) through the United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA).
The Devon, England native received a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Recreation Management in 2006 from the University of Maine at Machias and completed a Master of Arts in Exercise Physiology and Performance at ETSU in 2008.
Howard married the former Pearl Coleshill in 2018 and they reside in Bryan with their daughter, Abigail.
