2016: Debut performance as an Aggie came in December 2015 Reveille Invitational, where she set a career best of 44-5 ½ (13.55) as runner-up in the shot put and produced a mark of 48-6 ¾ (14.80) in her first competition with the weight throw … Improved shot put best to 44-10 ¼ (13.67) weight throw best to 47-3 ½ (14.41) at Texas A&M Team Invitational … Placed 10th in SEC Indoor Championships shot put with another personal best of 44-11 (13.69) … Opened outdoor season with marks of 44-6 ¾ (13.58) in shot put and 162-0 (49.37) in discus to place ninth and eighth, respectively, at Arizona State’s Buddy Castillo Invitational … Won ‘B’ division of discus at Texas Relays (159-2/48.52) … Improved career best in discus to 165-11 (50.58) for third place at Sun Angel Classic … Competed in three throwing events during dual meet with UCLA, placing third in discus (154-2/46.99), fourth in shot put (47-3 ½ / 14.41) and fifth in hammer (154-2/46.99) … Improved in discus and hammer during Michael Johnson Classic, placing fifth in discus (167-7/51.08) and seventh in hammer (161-4/49.18) … Also placed fifth and seventh at LSU Invitational in shot put (46-11 ¾ / 14.32) and discus (162-0/49.38) … Finished 10th in SEC Championships shot put with a mark of 45-6 ¼ (13.87) and had three fouls in the discus.
HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Yoakum High School in 2015 … Coached by her father, David, as she competed in shot put, discus, 100m hurdles, pole vault and high jump … Also competed in volleyball and basketball … Set best marks of 42-2 ¾ in shot put and 160-1 in discus as a prep … Won three consecutive State titles in discus, Class 4A in 2015, Class 3A in 2013 and 2014 … State 4A runner-up in shot put in 2015 and placed third in State 3A final during 2014.
PERSONAL: Celine Marie Markert was born December 27, 1996 in Yoakum, Texas … Daughter of David Markert and the late Virginia Markert … Has three older siblings, Amber Seale, Lena Manning and William Markert … Father competed in track and field at Baylor as well as sister Amber … Chose Texas A&M due to atmosphere and feeling of home, along with successful program and knowing I was going to work with a great coach … Ultimately, decision to attend Texas A&M came down to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, which she attended during recruiting visit … Started competing in track and field at age 7 … Community service and extracurricular activities include Yoakum FCA, Upward Basketball, St. Joseph Catholic Church CCD and National Honor Society … Majoring in Kinesiology.
TIDBITS: Career goal is to graduate from Texas A&M and become a coach and teacher … Chose to compete in track and field since she loves the sport as a whole.
