Mike “Radar” Ricke (Class of ‘82) began his A&M career in 1982. A 20-year veteran with the men’s basketball program, Ricke has spent nearly 20 years as a member of the women’s basketball staff.
During his time on Gary Blair’s staff, the Aggies have made 14 straight NCAA Tournament Appearances, and won the 2011 NCAA National Championship.
He served as the host athletic trainer for the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship in 2011, the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional in 2006 and the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship in 2002.
During his career, Ricke has worked with a variety of teams at Texas A&M. His athletic training experience includes working with football (1983-87, 1993-98), baseball (1980-93), men’s tennis (1999-2004) and women’s golf (2005-10). In addition, Ricke has worked with legendary Texas A&M coaches, including Tom Chandler (baseball), Mark Johnson (baseball), Jackie Sherrill (football), R.C. Slocum (football), Shelby Metcalf (men’s basketball), Kermit Davis (men’s basketball) and Blair.
Along with the prevention of injuries and care of student-athletes, Ricke assists with the everyday operation of one of the finest athletic training programs in the nation. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association and the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association.
While an undergraduate, Ricke served four years as a student trainer under Hall of Famer Billy Pickard. After graduating from A&M in 1982, Ricke served six months as a graduate assistant before assuming full-time duties on June 1, 1983.
Radar earned his bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education from Texas A&M in 1982.
Ricke is married to the former Dee Dee Fort of Bryan. The couple has four children, Allison, Amanda, JT, and Bridget.
In his spare time, Ricke enjoys golf, saltwater fishing and yard work. Ricke is a native of La Marque, Texas.
