Alexandria (Alex) Burroughs, PsyD serves the Athletics Department as an Athletics Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellow.
Dr. Burroughs uses an integrative strengths-based approach to enhance mental performance and foster student-athlete mental health and well-being. She acknowledges that there are multiple ways to process and experience emotions and experiences and incorporates expressive arts therapeutic techniques into her work to provide alternative and creative ways to gain deeper understanding and achieve goals. She strives to form strong relationships that are rooted in openness, support, hope, and inclusion. She has a passion for all aspects of diversity and strives to create a space where every individual feels heard and valued. By doing so, she is able to collaboratively develop and tailor interventions to meet each student-athlete’s unique needs and highlight personal strengths to help them achieve their goals.
Dr. Burroughs completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from LeTourneau University where she was a member of the Women’s Basketball team. She completed her Master’s Degree in Sport Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, where she provided sport psychology services to athletes from varying ages and backgrounds. She earned a PsyD in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University, where she continued to work with athletes, specifically collegiate athletes, and completed her dissertation which focused on working with athletes who have experienced multiple major injuries.
She also completed her doctoral internship within the Counseling and Psychology Services Sport Psychology Track at Texas Tech University, where she received specialized training and worked with student-athletes under the supervision of Dr. Dayna Charbonneau and Dr. Marcus Dumas.
