Deemed by legendary coach Tom Chandler as the best hitter in the history of Aggie baseball, RJ Englert was a three year baseball letterman from 1970 – 1972. In 1970, Englert led the SWC in batting average. Englert earned All-American honors in 1972 and was a three time consensus All-SWC selection for his outstanding play in the outfield and at the plate. His gritty play earned him co-MVP honors in 1971 and solo team honors in 1972. In 1996, Englert was named to the All-SWC Baseball team, spanning an era from 1949-1996. While playing for the Aggies, Englert held several records including most hits in a season, career hits, and set a SWC record with a 16-game hitting streak. His school records still stand for career batting average (.394) and hitting streak for the year at 28 games. Englert’s accomplishments were not limited to the baseball field as he was also active in the Corps of Cadets, FCA and served as the Secretary of the T Association. Englert received his bachelor’s degree in finance in 1972.
