Freshman Bernard King took home four awards, including "Most Outstanding Player," at the 1999-2000 Texas A&M Basketball Banquet Wednesday night at Reed Arena.
King, who led the team in scoring with a freshman-record 16.9 average, also took home awards for "Freshman of the Year," "Most Assists," and the "Tom and Mary Longbrake Leading Scorer Award." The 6-3 guard earned consensus Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors this season and was a third-team All-Big 12 selection.
King's backcourt mate, freshman Jamaal Gilchrist, also had a big night, receiving the "Loraine and Breezy Breazeale Free Throw Proficiency Award" and an award for "Most Steals." Gilchrist led the team this season with a .766 free throw percentage and ranked among the Big 12 leaders with 55 steals.
Freshman center Andy Slocum received the "Daniel Scoates Garner Academic Extra Effort Award," while junior forward Aaron Jack received the "Most Rebounds" award. Jack led the Aggies with an average of 6.5 rebounds per game.
Senior forwards Jason Boeker and Jerald Brown each took home three awards. The pair were named team captains, by vote of their teammates, along with Jack, and also were named co-recipients of the "Aggie Spirit Award." Brown, Boeker and Paul Jacobs each received their framed game jerseys as the teams only seniors.
