Jackson Tosses Two-Hit Shutout in Aggies' 4-0 Win at Kansas

Junior left-hander Zach Jackson dealt a two-hit shutout to lead No. 15 Texas A&M to a 4-0 win over Kansas at Hoglund Ballpark.
Jackson (7-2) faced just two men over the minimum and needed just 106 pitches to complete the nine-inning outing. Jackson retired the last 19 men he faced and seemed to get stronger as the game wore on. He struck out nine and did not allow a free pass as he started 23 of the 29 hitters he faced with a strike.
With the win the Aggies improved to 29-8 overall and to 6-5 in Big 12 play and clinched the series win over the Jayhawks. Kansas dropped to 23-16-1 and 1-7.
Texas A&M will try for the series sweep on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
The Aggies put the first run on the board in the top of the fifth. Kansas starting pitcher Chris Smart hit Justin Ruggiano to start the inning. Coby Mavroulis singled through the right side and Craig Stinson perfectly executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up a station. After Andrew Baldwin popped up to the infield, John Infante lined a ball off Smart and beat the throw for an infield single and a RBI.
Texas A&M stretched its lead in the top of the sixth by scoring two runs. With two outs in the inning, Ruggiano was hit by a pitch for the second straight at bat and scored on a double by Mavroulis. Stinson followed with a line-drive single through the right side to score Mavroulis and make the score 3-0.
A one-out walk to Erik Schindewolf in the top of the seventh was enough to chase Smart (4-4) from the game. Smart lasted 6.1 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits. He struck out two, walked two and hit two hitters.
A RBI double by Schindewolf in the ninth earned the Aggies an insurance run. Schindewolf reached base four of the five times he went to the plate.
