Texas A&M pitcher Amanda Scarborough notched her second no-hitter of the season as the No. 10 Texas A&M softball team defeated Michigan State, 1-0, to claim the championship of the FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament.
The Aggies improved to 28-2 on the season and extended their win streak to 12 games as they were 5-0 on the weekend.
Scarborough was named the tournament MVP after going 3-0 with no earned runs and hitting .467 with two RBI.
"This was a great weekend for our team," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "We came in to the weekend with the intent to win all five games and we accomplished our goal. All four pitchers did a great job in the circle and our hitters were dangerous throughout the lineup."
Scarborough was named the State Farm Player of the Game after her complete game four strikeout performance. The freshman from Magnolia, Texas faced the minimum number of batters when a second-inning walk was erased by a double play. Her first no-hitter came against North Texas in her first career start.
Jana James (Mesquite, Texas) put the only run of the game on the board in the first with an RBI groundout to shortstop that scored Sharonda McDonald (Houston, Texas) from third. McDonald reached on a walk before stealing second and moving to third on a Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) sac bunt.
Texas A&M begins conference play on Wednesday when they travel to Waco to take on No. 9 Baylor.
