Freshman Kyle Colligan belted a home run and a triple and accounted for all three of Texas A&M runs on Tuesday night as the Aggies held off a late rally to defeat Houston, 3-2, at Cougar Field.

With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the ninth, Houston rallied for three-straight hits to get within one run. Jason Meyer entered with runners on second and third and coaxed cleanup hitter Brad Lincoln to fly out to right to end the game and earn his first save of the season.

?We talk about competing for nine innings and that nobody is going to give you anything in this game,? A&M head coach Rob Childress said. ?Tonight was the perfect way to end the game for us. We had Jason Meyer on the mound against one of the best hitters in the country and it went our way. We needed that.?

A&M starting pitcher Kyle Thebeau (2-2) pitched his way out of jam after jam, as Houston stranded nine runners in his seven-complete innings of work. Thebeau scattered seven hits and allowed one unearned run, while striking out six. Five of Thebeau?™s strikeouts came in his last three innings on the mound.

Colligan put the Aggies on the board in the second inning with a two-out, two-run homer over the wall in left. The home run was the first of Colligan?™s collegiate career and came in just his eighth official at bat of the season.

The Cougars scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single by Brian Tully.

A&M regained the two run lead in the top of the fifth. Colligan started the inning with a triple to right and scored on a single by Jose Salazar to make the score 3-1.

Houston starter Matt Farrington (1-4) was lifted after 5 2/3 innings of work. He allowed three runs on five hits and struck out five while walking three.

The Aggies return to Big 12 action this weekend when host Texas Tech in a three-game set at Olsen Field. The first game of the series will start on Friday at 7 p.m.
