
Aggies Fall to No. 19 Houston, 9-6

Adam Hale went 2-for-4 with a two doubles, a run scored and an RBI on Tuesday night, but No. 19 Houston outscored the Aggies, 9-6, at Olsen Field.
With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 19-21 while the Cougars improved to 25-15.
The Aggies took the lead in the bottom of the first with a run off of Houston starting pitcher Shea Hancock. With one out, Jose Salazar was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sharp single to center by Austin Boggs. Salazar and Boggs executed a double steal and Salazar then scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Jake Vasquez.
An RBI single by Brian Tully off of A&M starter Chance Corgan in the top of the second tied the game, 1-1.
Houston took the lead in the top of third with an unearned run. Jake Stewart started the inning by reaching on a fielding error by second baseman Parker Dalton. After stealing second, Stewart scored on a single to right by Isa Garcia.
Solo homers by Josh Stirneman and Luis Flores in the top of the third increased the Cougars?™ lead to 4-1.
Reliever Anthony Vasquez replaced Corgan to start the fifth and allowed a one-out solo homer to Brad Lincoln over the wall in straight-away center to put the Cougars up 5-1.
A four-run fifth by the Aggies tied the game at 5-5 and chased Hancock in the process. Dalton and Blake Stouffer each singled to start the inning before Matt Farrington entered the game in relief.
Salazar was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Boggs lifted a sac fly to center. After a groundout moved runners to second and third, Farrington uncorked a wild pitch allowing another run to score. After an RBI double by Adam Hale, Kyle Colligan singled up the middle to score the tying run.
Houston responded with three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to retake the lead, 9-5. Flores hit his second dinger of the game, a two-run shot to left, and Garcia added an RBI single in the sixth. Stewart singled to score a run in the seventh.
Craig Stinson drove in a run with a sac fly in the seventh to cut the Cougar lead to three runs.
Farrington (3-4) earned the win and Anthony Vasquez (0-1) shouldered the loss.
Clayton Boone did not allow a run in the eighth or ninth innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
Texas A&M returns to Big 12 play this weekend with a split three-game series against Baylor. Friday?™s game one will be played at Olsen Field at 3p.m., before the series shifts to Baylor Ballpark for games two and three.
