Austin Boggs delivered a two-out double to right-center field in the bottom of the sixth to score John Infante from first on Sunday afternoon and tie the game between Texas A&M and Kansas State, 1-1, at Olsen Field.
Boggs was inserted as a pinch hitter and was not playing because of a knee injury suffered in Friday?™s game.
The game was called following the sixth inning because of a two hour and 58 minute rain delay and travel plans by K-State.
?It was good to see Boggs come off the bench and get a big hit,? A&M head coach Rob Childress said. ?We want to play every inning of every game. Unfortunately we had to cut the game short today.?
With the tie, the Aggies moved to 25-27-1 overall and to 6-17-1 in Big 12 play. The Wildcats are now 26-20-2 and 5-17-2 in the league. An A&M loss would have eliminated the Aggies from the Big 12 Tournament. An A&M sweep of Kansas in Lawrence and a Texas sweep of Missouri in Columbia next weekend is the only scenario that earns the Aggies a trip to Oklahoma City.
Ryan Hill led off the second with a double to left, before Jose Salazar struck out and John Infante grounded out to third. With Hill on second, two outs, and a 2-1 count on Josh Stinson in the bottom of the second, a flash of lightning forced the teams off the field. When play resumed, Stinson grounded out to second to end the second.
The Wildcats scored an unearned run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Brett Scott blooped a one-out single to right and moved to second on a bunt single by Tony Link. Brandon Farr hit a grounder that was misplayed by shortstop Jose Salazar to load the bases. Hart Hering replaced A&M starter Matt Ueckert on the mound and a sacrifice fly to right by Jared Goedert made the score, 1-0.
A&M had another chance to score in the fifth. Spencer Jackson led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Keith Stein. Parker Dalton bunted Stein to second and a groundout to short moved him the third. K-State brought in Bryan Peterson, a right-handed sidearmer, who struck out Kyle Colligan to end the inning and the threat.
Six A&M seniors were honored prior to their final home game at Olsen Field ?- Ben Brockman (Katy), Lance Harvell (College Station), Hart Hering (Waco), Ryan Hill (San Antonio), John Infante (Coppell), and Jose Salazar (Dallas).
A&M returns to action next weekend when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., for a three-game series against Kansas.
