COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Cal State Fullerton scored eight runs in the ninth inning to blow open a tight game and lift the fourth-ranked Titans to a 15-5 win over No. 3 Texas A&M Tuesday evening before 4,567 fans at Olsen Field.
The Aggies fell to 11-4 with the loss, while Fullerton improved to 10-2 and won their ninth straight game.
After Cal State Fullerton took the early lead with single runs in the second and third off A&M starter Clayton Ehlert, the Aggies would tie the game in the last of the third on a two-run home run by Brodie Greene.
One inning later, a two-out solo home run to left by Kyle Colligan--his second of the year--put the Aggies on top for the first time at 3-2.
The Titans would answer in the fifth when Josh Fellhauer belted a two-out, two-run home run to left, his second of the season, to give Fullerton a 4-3 lead.
Brooks Raley began a fifth-inning Aggie rally with a double down the left-field line. After Luke Anders moved him to third on a groundout, Raley scored on an RBI single up the middle by Dylan Petrich to tie the game at four.
Once again, Fullerton answered the Texas A&M offense, this time with a pair of runs in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. Khris Davis led off the inning with his sixth home run of the year and, after a one-out triple by Dustin Garneau, Joe Scott drove in the run with a groundout to shortstop.
Petrich made a diving catch on a two-out sinking liner in left center field to end the seventh and keep the game a two-run affair.
The Titans pushed a single run across in the eighth before sending 12 men to the plate in the final inning and scoring eight runs on seven hits, including two home runs.
Colligan went a season-best 3-for-4 with a home run on the night, while Greene drove in a team-high two runs.
Fellhauer and Christian Colon paced the Fullerton attack with four hits each, while Scott drove in a game-high four runs.
Both starters did not factor in the decision. Ehlert lasted 4 2/3 and allowed 10 hits and four runs while striking out two. He did not walk a batter.
Titan freshman Noe Ramirez went 4 2/3 as well, giving up six hits, four runs and two walks while striking out six.
Ross Hales (3-1) suffered the loss in relief, giving up three hits and two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Kyle Witten (2-0) earned the victory for Fullerton, allowing one unearned run and one hit in 1 2/3 innings of work.
A&M's next game, scheduled for Wednesday against Northwestern State, has been postponed until March 25 due to pending inclement weather. The Aggies' next game will now be on Friday night at No. 5 Baylor with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
