LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas A&M sophomore Brooks Raley was one of 15 student-athletes named a semifinalist for the Collegiate Baseball Foundation's Pitcher of the Year Award, the organization announced Thursday.
Raley, who hails from Uvalde, Texas, is one of the nation's top two-way players. He leads the Aggies with a 7-1 record and a 2.76 ERA, and has punched out 89 hitters in 84 1/3 innings of work. Raley, who has held opposing hitters to a paltry .205 average in '09, plays the outfield when not pitching and ranks third on the squad with a .317 batting average and has swiped a Big 12-high 23 bases.
The winner of the award will be announced July 2 during the College Baseball Awards Show in Lubbock.
The Big 12 led all conferences in representation with three players on the list -- Raley, A.J. Morris of Kansas State and Austin Wood of Texas.
Raley will take the mound Friday night as the 15th-ranked Aggies open a weekend series at No. 13 Oklahoma. First pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman is set for 6:30 p.m.
