NORMAN, Okla. - No. 15 Texas A&M was held to two hits in a 9-0 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma Saturday evening before 1,633 fans at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The Aggies (34-20, 14-12 Big 12) can lock down the No. 5 seed in next week's Big 12 Championship with a win in Sunday's series finale. A&M can fall no lower than the No. 6 spot. The Sooners (39-16, 16-10) can earn the No. 2 seed with a victory
OU totaled 13 hits on the night, led by a 3-for-4, three-RBI performance by left fielder Casey Johnson. The Sooners scored in four of the first five frames and added a four-spot in the sixth to open up the game.
In the bottom of the first inning, with one out and one on, Bryant Hernandez fisted a 3-2 pitch behind first base. The ball landed just fair and just past the infield dirt, then scooted into foul territory, moving Hernandez to second with a double and the lead runner--Matt Harughty--to third base. J.T. Wise then lifted a 1-0 pitch to center field, scoring Harughty on a sacrifice fly to give OU a 1-0 lead.
Wise made it 2-0 in the third with a two-out bouncer that snuck through the left side of the infield, again scoring Harughty from third to make the score 2-0.
Trey Sperring drove in the Sooners' third run in the fourth with a seeing-eye single to right through a drawn-in infield.
OU put the first two on in the fifth on an error and hit batter. Following a sacrifice bunt, Casey Johnson laced a 2-2 pitch through the middle of a drawn-in infield to score two and bump the lead to 5-0.
The Sooners added four two-out runs in the sixth to close out the scoring.
A&M starter Ross Hales (5-2) took the loss, giving up nine hits and six runs (five earned) over 5.1 innings. He walked one and fanned four.
Michael Rocha (5-2) picked up the victory after tossing six shutout innings. He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out five.
