COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M freshman Beth West and soccer signee Kim Castleberry were invited to participate in the U-20 U.S. Women's National Team (WNT) camp April 25-May 2 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
"Everyday thousands and thousands of soccer players across America dream of playing for the USA and representing their country in international competition, so I'm proud of our Aggie players who have earned the opportunity to play for the red, white and blue," A&M head soccer coach G Guerrieri said.
West, a midfielder from Centennial, Colo., started 23 of 24 games for the Aggies in 2008. She earned Soccer Buzz Freshman All-American and All-Central Region honors in addition to being chosen as a member of the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie First Team. She was an NSCAA/adidas High School All-American and a member of the U-18, U-17, U-16 and U-15 WNT.
A native of McKinney, Texas, Castleberry is a forward who was named TopDrawerSoccer.com's No. 1 recruit for the class of 2009. She was a two-time NSCAA High School All-American and a U-15 and U-16 WNT member. Castleberry was also in the U-17 WNT pool and her team was the U-17 USYS National Champion in 2008.
In addition to West and Castleberry being invited to the U-20 WNT camp, junior goalkeeper Kristin Arnold and freshman defender Bri Young attended the U-23 WNT camp in April. Young also played for the U-20 WNT in Spain earlier this year, while sophomore forward Alyssa Mautz was another Aggie soccer player that joined the U.S. WNT at the 2008 FIFA U-20 World Cup in November.
"I'm proud of the way that our program has developed so many players to play for the USA," continued Guerrieri. "The student-athletes in our program are in a daily environment which is conducive to developing world class players like Beth, Kristin, Bri and Kim. As a coach, it's always wonderful to see that we're helping these incredible young ladies achieve their dreams."
