
Volleyball Records Sweep Against the Red Raiders

LUBBOCK, Texas - Kelsey Black and Chelsea Ringel posted 11 kills apiece to lead Texas A&M to a 25-17, 25-22, 25-11 victory over Texas Tech tonight at the United Spirit Arena.
A&M, which notched its eighth consecutive victory against the Red Raiders, improves to 11-11 overall and 5-7 in the Big 12 Conference.
Tech, which was playing its first match under the direction of Caldwell, Texas, native Beth (Karasek) Falls, who was named interim head coach on Monday following the immediate resignation of head coach Trish Knight, drops to 3-18 overall and 1-11 in Big 12 play.
Tech held its second lead of the opening set at 14-13 when A&M scored four consecutive points to regain the lead and force a Red Raider timeout. A&M later held a 19-16 advantage when a Ringel kill began a five-point run for the Aggies. Lindsey Miller recorded a solo block and Black had two kills during the run, including a kill that put the Aggies at set point. A service error put Tech within 24-17 before Miller ended the frame with a kill.
A&M outhit Tech, .303 to .103 in the set. Ringel led the Aggies with five kills while hitting .400. Black pitched in four kills while hitting t a .375 clip, and setter Allie Sawatzky dished out 13 assists.
Tech stayed within striking distance in the second stanza, tying the score four times but never taking a lead. The Red Raiders tied the score for the last time at 21-21 on an Amanda Dowdy kill, but a service error, an A&M block and a Tech ball handling error put the Aggies at set point. A&M was whistled for a lift on the ensuing play before Miller got a kill off the block to take the second set, 25-22.
A&M jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the third set, and Corbelli practically emptied the bench as the Aggies went on to win, 25-11. Leading 14-6, Corbelli subbed in freshman defensive specialist Lauren Conrad, who served the Aggies to a 19-6 lead. A&M continued to pull away with Allie Freiwald, Ashley Vrana, Heather Reynolds and Alisia Kastmo all getting into the action, and Kastmo getting a kill off the block for the match winner.
A&M outhit Tech, .593 to .125, in the final set and .326 to .119 for the full match.
A&M has a bye this weekend before returning home to Reed Arena on Nov. 3 for a rematch against Oklahoma. The match against the Sooners will start at 8 p.m. and will be nationally televised live by ESPNU.
Fans will be trying to "Super Smash" the attendance record. All student organizations, including sororities and fraternities, get in free. All elementary school students with a special flier also will be admitted free and their parents will receive discounted tickets.
