POSTGAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH Mark Turgeon
"It was a good win for us. No matter how much we built up A&M International, I'm not sure if our guys took it serious or not. For the most part, I think our guys competed and tried to do the right thing. They really grinded their offense, ran their motion, it was a good test for us. At times, we showed flashes, like in the first 10 minutes of the second half. It was a good win for us."
On David Loubeau's play... "David was good, he got started early. Guys trust him, they throw him the ball, he had 14 shots, which was good. Wish he would have got foul line a little more. But in 21 minutes, those are pretty good numbers."
On offensive rebounding... "We really talked about getting to the offensive boards. We missed open shots, but I know we're going to make them, we have a lot of good shooters. I know it wasn't a terrible number for our percentage, but we're going to shoot it better."
On the 17 assists on the night... "We can really pass. We weren't very crisp on offense. Our secondary break wasn't very good, but when our possessions were good, we were really good. We have a bunch of guys that can pass the ball. A lot of those buckets were second chance points, but 17 assists with 30 buckets is good."
On the lack of fouls called... "I think they let us play a lot more tonight, on both ends. They realized what type of game it was going to be and kind of let us play. We really worked hard on defending without fouling. Our post defense was bad, but besides that we guarded pretty well without fouling."
JUNIOR FORWARD David Loubeau
On his dunks... "BJ and Dash were penetrating and finding me, and I just had my hands ready to finish the play."
On stepping up on the court... "The first games, I've been fouling, and it was a misunderstanding guarding the post. I went to the referee before the game and asked him about where I should put my forearm and everything and I got the right answer, so I was able to guard the post the right way tonight.
On his first double-double... "Last year I was so close. Like seven times, I had like 9 and 8 [rebounds]. This is my first one, it's another accomplishment for me. Last time I played a high school game was the last time I had a double-double."
On the Old Spice Classic... "Now it's time to step it up and make a name for ourselves against a couple of ranked teams. We're going to bring it to them and play hard up there."
SENIOR FORWARD Nathan Walkup
On David Loubeau's play... "He went to work tonight, that's what we need him to do. I told him before the game, `we need you. We need you to score and be an inside presence. I don't think anyone in the Big 12 can stop you.' "
On A&M's lack of fouling... "That was something we've been stressing in practice. The first two games, we were fouling everyone, we were playing in foul trouble, not getting our bodies in position. We focused on it in practice and got everyone playing defense without fouling."
On the Old Spice Classic... "You're always ready to go out and play on these tournaments. They're on television, and on Thanksgiving break we can really focus on basketball and make a statement. On a national spotlight where the whole country can see you, it's a big thing for our team and our program."
On A&M International's play... "We knew they were going to grind their offense and try to keep it close, which was good for us. They ran a lot of motion, which is what Texas Tech runs, so it was a good preparation for Tech. We got a lot out of this game, not just a win."
