COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Joe Patterson drove in a career-high five runs to lead Texas A&M to a 15-3 win over Centenary Wednesday evening before 2,816 fans at Olsen Field.
The Aggies (30-18-1) picked up their 30th victory of the season and won for the 10th time in their last 14 games. The Summit League-leading Gents, meanwhile, fell to 22-19.
With both teams working a lot of pitchers, the game was deadlocked at three entering the last of the fourth. A&M took control there, plating seven runs on just three hits to open up a 10-3 lead. The Aggies scored two runs on balks, another on a bases-loaded walk and two each on RBI singles by Patterson and Adam Smith.
Patterson, who pushed home the game's initial run in the first, added a long two-run home run to center in the sixth to make the score 12-3.
Catcher Gregg Alcazar had a great night at the plate, smashing his second home run of the season and matching a career high with three hits. Adam Smith and Joaquin Hinojosa each tacked on two hits and two RBIs.
Michael Tompkins and Cliff Shepard had three hits apiece to lead Centenary.
Senior Shane Minks (2-2) earned the win in relief, allowing three hits over four shutout innings. He walked a pair and struck out four.
Cole Thompson (1-1) took the loss, allowing a hit, walk and hitting a man without retiring a batter in the decisive fourth inning.
Texas A&M heads to Stillwater this weekend for a pivotal three-game set with Oklahoma State. The series opens on Friday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. Junior Barret Loux (8-2, 2.30) will take the mound against Cowboy senior Tyler Lyons (3-5, 6.06).
