Texas A&M All-American Andrea Pavan has advanced to the final eight of match play at the 2010 British Amateur Championships at Muirfield in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland.
Pavan, who exhausted his A&M eligibility earlier this month at the NCAA Championships, advanced through the stroke play portion of the British Amateur with rounds of 70 (-1) at Muirfield and 69 (-2) at North Berwick on June 14-15. Once in the match play portion, Pavan logged wins over Elias Bertheussen of Norway (1-up), Morten Orum Madsen of Denmark (1-up) and Darren Wright of Rowlands Castle (1-up) on June 16-17.
Next up for Pavan, who is from Rome, Italy, is Chris Paisley of Stocksfield. The other fifth round matches are: Matthew Nixon (Ashton-under-Lyne) vs. Rhys Enoch (Truro); Jin Jeong (South Korea) vs. Paul Cutler (Portstewart), and Edouard Espana (France) vs. James Byrne (Banchory).
Pavan's Aggie teammate Nacho Elvira also competed at the British Amateur but missed the matchplay cut by two strokes after shooting rounds of 73 (+2) at Muirfield and 72 (+1) at North Berwick.
Incoming freshman Ben Campbell of New Zealand placed fifth in the strokeplay qualifying with a share of fifth place (71 at Muirfield, 67 at North Berwick), but fell in the first round of matchplay to Sebastien MacLean of Bolivia, 2-and-1.
