MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico - A pair of Aggie sprinters earned gold and silver medals in the 4 x 400 relay on Friday evening during the final day of track and field competition at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
Former NCAA champion and A&M graduate Clora Williams anchored the Jamaica women's 4 x 400 relay to victory while current Aggie Demetrius Pinder handled anchor duties for the Bahamas men's 4 x 400 relay that placed second.
Williams, who won the 2006 NCAA title in the 400, maintained Jamaica's lead on the final leg of the relay and claimed the win in 3:32.31. Colombia (3:33.03) placed second for silver ahead of Mexico (3:33.33).
Pinder had Bahamas in the lead over Jamaica as he started his leg of the relay and maintained an edge over Allodin Fothergill until the final 20 meters of the race. Fothergill managed to pass Pinder near the finish line to claim the win in 3:01.68 as Jamaica bettered its meet record of 3:01.78 set in 2006.
A time of 3:01.82 earned silver medals for the Bahamas crew with Trinidad & Tobago taking bronze in 3:04.07.
