COLLEGE STATION, Texas - All-American Austin Krajicek posted his 99thcareer doubles win as an Aggie as he and his All-American teammate Jeff Dadamo led the No. 5-ranked Texas A&M men's tennis team to a 6-1 win over the No. 37-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The win improves the Aggies' home winning streak to 30 straight matches.
Krajicek and Dadamo, ranked No. 5 in the latest ITA rankings, were the first doubles tandem off of the court with an 8-6 win at the No. 1 line against Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim. Krajicek already holds the school record for doubles victories and move his record to 99 doubles victories. Krajicek, ranked No. 26 in singles, followed up with a straight sets victory at the No. 1 singles, beating Calin Paar, 6-2, 6-1.
"This was a tough match today in conditions that were horrendous," Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. "Our guys managed the wind reasonably well. We got off to a good start in doubles and then won five six first sets in singles. Psychologically it is tough to come back in these types of conditions. We won ugly today, but we gave ourselves a chance and we continue to keep moving forward. I thought Austin (Krajicek) and (Colin) Hoover handled the conditions very well throughout the match. This team is continuing to fight hard and continuing to work hard and that is all that we can ask. We need to keep our momentum going."
Junior Colin Hoover had a solid Sunday as he and doubles teammate Alberto Bautista won at the No. 3 doubles, 8-4, and Hoover had a straight sets victory at the No. 5 line over Sebastian Florczyk, 6-1, 6-1 to move the A&M lead to 3-0.
Dadamo, ranked No. 45 in singles, clinched the match with a straight sets win at the No. 2 singles beating No. 69-ranked Aumueller, 6-4, 6-0.
Nebraska would get its lone point at No. 3 where Lindheim defeated Alexey Grigorov, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4. Grigorov and his doubles partner, freshman Junior Ore, clinched the doubles point for A&M with an 8-6 win over Stenger and Florczyk at the No. 2 doubles.
Ore won his singles match at the No. 6 line winning a super tiebreaker, 10-7 in the third set.
Alexis Klegou finished off the match with a 7-5 win in the third set of the No. 4 singles to make the final score, 6-1.
The Aggies will return to the court later on Sunday to face UT-San Antonio at 6 p.m.
