COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M senior All-American Austin Krajicek posted his 100thcareer doubles victory as he teamed with his senior All-American partner Jeff Dadamo to lead the No. 5-ranked Aggies to a 7-0 win over the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners before a crowd of 342 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on Sunday evening.
The doubleheader sweep, an earlier win on Sunday was a 6-1 decision over the Nebraska Cornhuskers that kept the Aggies undefeated in Big 12 play at 4-0 and Texas A&M is now 21-4 on the year. UTSA falls to 9-9, Nebraska left Aggieland with a 14-8 and 0-2 ledger in league action.
"Austin's time here at Texas A&M has gone really fast," Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. "He is a great ambassador for Texas A&M, not only on the court, but in every aspect of his life. The 100 career doubles wins is quite a personal accomplishment and is a testament to his hard work. Every time he steps on the court he is ready. You see very few poor matches because he is always up to the challenge and is one of the all-time great Aggies. He is a team leader."
Krajicek and Dadamo made quick work at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 win. The Aggies clinched the doubles point when Beau Blackshear and Daniel Brown won 8-6 at the No. 3 line. A&M would make it a clean sweep in doubles with Niall Angus and John Lewis winning at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
"This was great for a lot of the other guys who have not been in the lineup," Denton said. "I felt like they really responded and we had some close matches and did a good job of winning some tiebreakers and just gutting out the win. This makes our overall team better, the guys gain confidence from getting game action and being able to go through difficult situations and to respond. It is a source of pride on our entire team to win every point possible and these are good signs for this team."
Senior Kayvon Karimi was the first singles point in the books with a straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 6 line and freshman Daniel Brown moved the Aggie advantage to 3-0 as he won 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 5 line.
The Aggies would clinch the match at the No. 4 line as freshman Junior Ore won, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
The top three lines were all close with two of those going three sets. Angus won at the No. 1 line coming back from one set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 in a super tiebreaker. John Lewis gutted out the win at No. 2 with a 7-6 (5) and 6-4 victory and the night was closed out at No. 3 where Alberto Bautista outlasted the Roadrunners, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The Aggies will host another twinbill on Wednesday as UT-Pan American comes to Aggieland for a 12 noon match followed by a 6 p.m. match against Tulsa at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
