Singles Sweep Powers Aggies Past ‘Cats, 6-1

LEXINGTON – The No. 16 Texas A&M men's tennis team swept through singles in the Aggies' SEC road opener against the Kentucky Wildcats, 6-1, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex Monday afternoon.
Freshman Markus Molder got his first career clinch and ranked win after topping No. 91 Charlelie Cosnet on court 4. The Estonian was able to recover after dropping his first set, storming back to secure the match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Aggies (9-3, 2-0 SEC) fell behind early, losing back-to-back doubles courts to give Kentucky (8-4, 1-1 SEC) the early advantage.
Moving into singles, the Maroon & White picked up its first point after a retirement from Kentucky's Eli Stephenson on court 2. Junior Kholo Montsi had taken the first set, 7-5, before the retirement.
Sophomore Alex Frusina continued the Aggies' momentum after picking up a ranked win over No. 38 Jack Loutit on court 3 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Fellow sophomore Theo Papamalamis also grabbed a ranked win on court 1 over No. 94 Nicolas Arseneault, 6-4, 6-2.
After Molder clinched the match, senior Togan Tokac added another straight set win over Mikael Arsenault on court 5, 6-3, 6-3. Junior Lathan Skrobarcek rounded out the action, grabbing court 6 after defeating Matt Rankin, 6-3, 4-6, [11-9].
The Maroon & White return home to face the Georgia Bulldogs on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
