Junior Maureen McLaine said that the Aggies knew what to expect when SMU came to visit and compete in College Station.
"We knew SMU was going to be some really tough competition," McLaine said. "But our girls had some really good swims out there today."
The Aggies took first place in 12 individual and relay events, leaving just two top spots for the SMU Mustangs.
Sophomore Cammile Adams scored a hat trick with three first place finishes, one in each of her individual events. Adams touched first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.10), the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.36) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:16.09).
Fellow sophomores Breeja Larson and Paige Miller each pulled off a pair of individual wins as well. Larson took first in both the 100-yard (1:00.11) and 200-yard (2:12.41) breaststroke events, while Simpson beat out the competition in the 100-yard backstroke (54.15) and 100-yard butterfly (54.26) events.
Also grabbing first place individual finishes for the Aggies were junior Liz Nelson in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.79), freshman Sammie Bosma in the 100-yard freestyle (51.08) and senior Tess Simpson in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.03).
"It was a good meet for us today," A&M Head Coach Steve Bultman said. "We really wanted the girls to give a good amount of effort, and I think they did a good job of doing that."
A&M also swept the relay events, out-touching SMU in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.92) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:25.14).
The Aggie divers also competed today in a non-scoring exhibition meet, diving on both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Seniors Jaele Patrick and Janie Potvin were the one-two punch today, as Patrick swept first on both boards and Potvin notched second place just behind her teammate on both boards.
Coming off of Big 12 Diver of the Week honors, Patrick registered scores of 344.65 on the 1-meter and 371.10 on the 3-meter. Potvin scored 329.70 and 349.85 on the 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively.
The Aggies will jump right back in the pool tomorrow, as they travel to the three-day Austin Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
