No. 4 Women Fall in Final Seconds to No. 3 Texas, 67-65
Dec 21, 2014 | Women's Basketball
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Empress Davenport's layup with 4.2 seconds remaining helped No. 3 Texas win 67-65 over No. 4 Texas A&M on Sunday at Verizon Arena.
The win is only the fourth for the Longhorns (10-0) over the Aggies (11-1) since 2007, and the 10 straight wins to open the season are the best start for Texas since opening 11-0 in 2008.
Achiri Ade, who led A&M with 11 rebounds, tied the game at 65-65 with 31 seconds remaining. After Texas retained possession after a jump-ball forced by Jordan Jones with 11 seconds left, Davenport drove into the heart of the Aggies' defense for the game-winning layup.
Jones had a career-high 21 points for Texas A&M, while Courtney Williams added 19.
