Three Aggie Women's Golfers Finish Top 10 At "Mo"Morial

BRYAN, Texas- Three Aggies posted their first career top 10 finish, including third-place finisher Maddie Szeryk, as A&M finished third in the 2014 “Mo”Morial at Traditions Club. Texas A&M shot a final round 294 (+6) and finished with 881 strokes (+17) for the tournament.
“I'm ecstatic about this team,” said Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs. “When you put four sophomores and a freshman in the lineup, and they finish third after just one week of school, you can't complain about that.”
Szeryk, a freshman, shot an even-par 72 today, one day after a school, course and tournament record 65. Szeryk carded just two bogeys on the day—her only two bogeys in her last 35 holes of golf. The Allen, Texas native shot 213 (-3) for the tournament, and finished in third place in her first career tournament, taking home “runner-up” honors.
“We all played really well; it was a great team effort,” said Szeryk. “If one player wasn't playing well, another one would step up. We were all pushing each other to do well.”
Callie Scheffler shot even-par 72 for the second straight day, matching her career-best round. Scheffler finished with 220 (+4) strokes for the tournament, good for eighth place—a career-best finish for the sophomore.
Bianca Fabrizio had four birdies on the day, shooting a 74 (+2) to finish in a tie for ninth at 221 (+5). This is Fabrizio's first career Top 10 finish.
Thanya Pattamakijsakul 76 (+4) was the other scorer for the Aggies on Wednesday. Andrea Jonama shot a 77 (+5), with birdies on the last two hole of the tournament, to finish in a tie for 28th (228/+12). Ashley Malinchak (84/+12), Kirby Kramer (84/+12) and Emily Fuchs (89/+15) also competed as individuals.
Auburn won the tournament with a score of 860 (-4). Auburn's Clara Baena and Florida State's Kayla Jones tied for medalist honors, shooting 209 (-7) in an entertaining final group that included A&M's Szeryk.
The Aggies return to action on Oct. 4-6 at The Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.
