COLLEGE STATION—TCU rode strong play by senior Arnau Dachs against Texas A&M freshman Arthur Rinderknech at No. 4 singles to clinch the opening match in the 2015 ITA Kick-Off Weekend, 4-2.
TCU improves to 2-0 and will face LSU on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the winner advancing to the ITA National Indoor Championships. The Aggies fall to 0-1 and will face San Diego at 12 noon on Sunday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
“Give TCU credit, they came in here and played well,” Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. “Their seniors beat our freshmen in some close matches and they had a freshman beat one of our seniors. In several matches there were some big time moments and TCU made the most of those points.”
The Aggies, ranked No. 10 in the pre-season, got on the board first by virtue of winning the doubles point with the No. 1 team of Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant defeating the Frog duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein, 6-3.
The doubles point was clinched at the No. 2 doubles where Jeremy Efferding and Jordan Szabo defeated the TCU tandem of Cameron Norrie and Trevor Johnson, 6-3.
TCU would tie the match at one with the first singles match at No. 1 going to freshman Norrie, a 6-4, 6-1, winner over A&M's Adams.
TCU would take the lead at No. 6 singles where a Frog freshman, Guillermo Nunez defeated the Aggie senior Szabo, 6-4, 6-2.
A&M would square the scoring with Efferding winning at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Stein.
Aggie freshman A.J. Catanzariti would drop a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 5 singles to TCU senior Facundo Lugones to give TCU a 3-2 lead.
With Aggie Vinsant up 5-3 in the third set of his match against Chappell at No. 2 singles, the match was decided at No. 4 as senior Dachs disposed of Aggie freshman Rinderknech, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
