
Lambo, Groom nominated for prestigious scholar-athlete award

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
The Southeastern Conference will name the 2015 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on April 30.
Highlights of Texas A&M's nominees include:
Josh Lambo, Football, Texas A&M
• Graduated in January 2014 with a double major in Agricultural Leaderships and Development and Renewable Natural Resources
• Compiled a 3.81 overall GPA (4.0 scale)
• Post-graduate study plans are Ecosystem Science and Management
• Member of the Texas A&M University Dean's List in (Spring and Fall of 2013)
• Fellowship of Christian Athletes Student-Athlete of the Year (2014)
• Named to SEC Honor Roll (2013 and 2014)
• Served as a volunteer coach at Iola High School, a small community in the Bryan/College Station area
• Volunteer speaker to church youth groups and Boy Scout Troops
• Connected on 72-of-74 placekicks in 2014, including 13-of-15 on field goals and 59-of-59 on extra points
• Increased his career long twice in 2014 and his career long was a 50-yarder vs. SMU.
• Connected on 21-of-25 FGA, and 109-of-110 PATs in career, finishing with streak of 109 consecutive successful PATs
• Most accurate field goal kicker in school history (84.0 pct.)
• Second-team All-SEC (2014)

• Recreation, Parks and Tourism Science major scheduled to graduate in May 2015
• Earned $7,500 postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA in March 2015
• Capital One Academic All-America First Team (2014)
• NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team (2013, 2014)
• Scored 41 goals and 107 points, both rank sixth on A&M career charts
• Honda Sports Award nominee (2014)
• MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist (2014)
• Led squad to first-ever College Cup appearance (2014)
• NSCAA All-America First Team (2014)
• Bennett Rank XI All-America (2014)
• NSCAA All-South Region First Team (2012, 2013, 2014)
• SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2014)
• All-SEC First Team (2013, 2014)
• Led SEC and ranked third in the nation with seven game-winning goals (2014)
Each year, the SEC, in conjunction with AT&T, an SEC official sponsor, provides the league's male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $15,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $7,500 post-graduate scholarship.
The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are honored at the SEC Spring Meetings in Sandestin, Fla., in late May.
Last year's McWhorter Award recipients were Cory Whitsett of the Alabama golf team and Shannon Vreeland of the Georgia swimming and diving team.
