Women's Basketball Announces 2015-16 Schedule
Aug 20, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Texas A&M Women's Basketball released its 2015-16 schedule on Thursday, a challenging slate that features 20 games against teams who reached the postseason in 2014-15. In addition, the television schedule for SEC play has been announced, with the Aggies having 12 games broadcast nationally, including two that are a part of whip-around coverage on the SEC Network.
"Once again, we have one of the best schedules in the country, both in conference and non-conference," said Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair. "This is one of the best home schedules we have ever had, so fans need to make sure they pick up season tickets today."
"We have a great TV schedule this season, that gives our fans the opportunity to watch our team on the road, and provides great exposure to our program," added Blair.
The television schedule for 2016 SEC play is highlighted by ESPN2 telecasts of the Aggies marquee matchups at South Carolina (Jan. 17) and vs. Tennessee (Feb. 7). In addition, the Aggies' Feb. 28 game against Kentucky can be flexed to either an ESPN2 or ESPNU broadcast.
New for the 2015-16 season, the SEC Network will present two nights of whip-around coverage, a live look-in to every women's basketball contest played on Thursday, January 7 (Texas A&M at Arkansas) and Thursday, February 25 (Texas A&M at Auburn).
In the entire schedule, the Aggies play 14 games against 2015 NCAA Tournament Teams, and 22 games against teams that finished in the Top 100 of the RPI in 2014-15.
The Aggies have eight of the top nine other finishers in the 2015 SEC Standings paying a visit to Reed Arena in 2016, with Georgia (Jan. 3, 4 p.m., SEC Network), Ole Miss (Jan. 14, 7 p.m., SEC Network+), Missouri (Jan. 21, 7 p.m., SEC Network+), South Carolina (Jan. 31, ESPNU), Tennessee (Feb. 7, ESPN2), Mississippi State (Feb. 11, 6 p.m., SEC Network), LSU (Feb. 18, 8 p.m., SEC Network), and Kentucky (Feb. 28, ESPN2/ESPNU flex) all coming to Aggieland.
In conference play, the Aggies hit the road to face Arkansas (Jan. 7, SEC Network "Whip Around"), LSU (Jan. 10, 3 p.m., SEC Network), South Carolina (Jan. 17, ESPN2), Alabama (Jan. 28, 6 p.m. SEC Network Plus), Florida (Feb. 4, 6 p.m., SEC Network+), Ole Miss (Feb. 15, 6 p.m., SEC Network), Vanderbilt (Feb. 21, 4 p.m., SEC Network), and Auburn (Feb. 25, SEC Network "Whip Around").
The non-conference portion of the schedule kicks off with Texas State to open the season (Nov. 13), then includes home games against TCU (Nov. 21), SMU (Dec. 7), DePaul (Dec. 12), Little Rock (Dec. 22) and Prairie View A&M (Dec. 29).
The Aggies only have one true road game during non-conference play, heading to Cameron Indoor Stadium to take on Duke (Nov. 18, 6 p.m.). The Aggies play in three neutral site events, facing Cal and Ohio State at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout (Nov. 27-28) in Las Vegas, Nevada, taking on Hawaii and BYU in the Tom Weston Invitational (Dec. 4-5) in Laie, Hawai'i and taking on Oklahoma in the Big 12/SEC Challenge (Dec. 20) in Oklahoma City's Chesapeake Energy Arena.
In addition, the Aggies have the ability to add one or two more non-conference games to the schedule at a later date. More games may be picked up for television coverage and several game times will be decided in the coming weeks, with updates as available on 12thMan.com. The balance of Texas A&M's home non-conference schedule will be broadcast on SEC Network+. These games are available digitally on mobile devices and connected-TVs whose cable/satellite providers offer SEC Network+ through WatchESPN or SECSports.com.
The 2016 SEC Tournament is in Jacksonville, Florida, as the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena hosts the league's single-elimination tournament. The NCAA Tournament starts with the Top 16 seeds hosting First and Second Round games, determining the 16 participants in the four regionals—hosted in Bridgeport, Conn., Dallas, Lexington, Ky., and Sioux Falls, S.D.
In 2016, the NCAA Women's Final Four returns to Indianapolis, Ind. for the first time since 2011, when Texas A&M won its first National Championship in the sport.
