Jan 21, 2016 | Track and Field
COLLEGE STATION – Nationally ranked Aggies will play host to the Texas A&M Quadrangular this Saturday in a three-hour meet that features Arizona State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech and starts at noon inside Gilliam Indoor Stadium.
Track & Field News released their team dual meet rankings this week and the Aggie men are ranked No. 2 with the women No. 3 while Oklahoma women are ranked 16th. In the preseason USTFCCCA team rankings, which will be updated on Jan. 25, the A&M men are No. 9 and the women No. 21 with Texas Tech men ranked No. 17.
The Aggie men enter this weekend's quadrangular with a perfect 11-0 dual meet record since Gilliam opened in 2009. That undefeated dual meet record includes four dual meets, two triangular meets and a quadrangular last year. The A&M women hold an 8-3 dual meet record since 2009.
A live stream of the meet will be available through the SEC Network + on the Watch ESPN app. Live results will be available at http://flashresults.com/2016_Meets/Indoor/01-23_TAMUQuad/.
On the track Shamier Little makes her debut in the 400 meters after running second leg on Aggie 4x400 relays in December's Reveille Invitational (53.06) and last week's Texas A&M Team Invitational (52.22) when the squad posted a U.S. leading time of 3:35.64. Little is the defending SEC Indoor champion in the 400 after posting a winning time of 51.37 on an oversized track last season.
In the men's 400, Fred Kerley runs his first open 400 for the Aggies after splitting 46.72 in December and 47.29 last week on A&M 4x400 relays. He posted an indoor career best of 47.15 as runner-up in the NJCAA Indoor final last year. Texas Tech's Joseph Richards, 2015 Big 12 Indoor runner-up, enters as the top seed from his indoor PR of 46.62 on a banked track.
Another scheduled Aggie debut occurs in the men's long jump with Will Williams, a junior college athlete who joined the Texas A&M program in January. In 2014 Williams claimed runner-up honors in the NJCAA long jump during the indoor and outdoor championships, and he produced a personal best of 26-4 ¼.
Aaliyah Brown and Jennifer Madu headline the women's 60 meters. Madu will also contest the 200 along with Briyahna Desrosier, who posted a 53.53 in the 400 last week, as well as Aggie newcomers Diamond Spaulding and Brenessa Thompson.
Devin Jenkins sports the top seed in the men's 60 and 200 meters. Last year in this meet he clocked 20.89 in the 200, a tenth off the meet record of 20.79. This past weekend Jenkins won the 200 in 20.94 and was fifth in the 60 at 6.75.
Jacob Wooten and Audie Wyatt seek higher heights in the pole vault after each set an indoor best during a jump-off at the Texas A&M Invitational. Wooten had the upper hand last weekend with a 17-9 clearance while Wyatt settled with a 17-7 best. Texas Tech's Kyle Thompson, who sports a best of 17-6 ½, is among the 17-person field along with Aggie indoor school record holder Chase Wolfle (18-0 ½).
The Aggie middle distance group will have Hector Hernandez contesting the 800 along with younger brother Efrain as Cameron Villarreal teams with Alex Riba and Ryan Teel in the mile. Austin Wells and Christian Farris lead a crew of A&M distance runners in the 3,000 meters.
After running the mile in the first two meets of the season Katie Willard drops down to the 800 meters, where she is in a field that includes five A&M teammates. Willard will have a challenge from Oklahoma's Belle Wallace and Texas Tech's Maygen Smith.
Following his high jump victory at 6-11 last week, Aggie Sam McSwain faces Texas Tech's Bradley Adkins, the 2015 NCAA Indoor runner-up who enters with a best of 7-6. Arizona State and Oklahoma throwers will provide a stern test for A&M's tandem of Alison Ondrusek and Carissa van Beek in the weight throw.
