
Aggies Set for Rematch with Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 Texas A&M men's tennis team is set to face No. 6 Ohio State for the second time this week, this time at the Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio at 5 p.m. (CT). The Aggies fell, 4-3, to the Buckeyes Sunday at the ITA National Team Championships.
The Aggies (10-2) look to get back to their winning ways, having dropped their last two matches after rattling off 10 straight victories to open the season. The Buckeyes bring a 10-1 record into the Top-10 showdown in the Buckeye State.
Players in the ITA Rankings
Texas A&M enters the match with a pair of ranked singles players, led by No. 8 Arthur Rinderknech. Rinderknech earned the highest initial spring ranking for an Aggie on record, additionally he is the highest-ranked player in the SEC. The Frenchman stands at 16-6 this year, including a tie for a team-high five wins over ranked opponents.
Senior Shane Vinsant brings a No. 39 ranking into the top-15 matchup. The Keller native is currently 13-7 on the season, including an impressive 5-5 record against ranked foes. Vinsant has earned All-SEC recognition each of the last two seasons, along with the 2014 SEC Tournament MVP honors. A season ago Vinsant was named an All-American alongside classmate Harrison Adams after earning a final No. 10 ranking in the doubles poll.
In addition to the two ranked singles players, the Aggies enlist a pair of ranked doubles teams. No. 26 Rinderknech and Vinsant and the 33rd ranked pair of Jordi Arconada and Max Lunkin. Arconada and Lunkin are 9-1 this season, with a 6-0 dual record and one win over a ranked doubles team under their belt.
Ohio State counters with a quartet of ranked singles players; No. 5 Mikael Torpegaard, No 16 Hugo Di Feo, No. 18 Herkko Pollanen and No. 42 Chris Diaz. Additionally, the Buckeyes feature a pair of ranked doubles tandems; No. 14 Ralf Steinbach and Martin Joyce and No. 19 Pollanen and Torpegaard.

Senior Jackson Withrow and Rinderknech put on one of the most impressive displays of the season, sweeping No. 14 Steinbach and Joyce, 6-0, in just over 15 minutes of play. Seniors Harrison Adams and Vinsant clinched the point for the maroon and white with a 6-2 win over Diaz and Di Feo on court two. The Aggies bounced back from dropping their first doubles point of the season, Saturday afternoon against UCLA.
The match tightened up as play moved to singles, each team took the first set on three courts. Ohio State evened the score at one-all as Joyce topped junior Max Lunkin 6-2, 6-1 on court six then took a 2-1 lead as Torpegaard topped Rinderknech 6-4, 6-3 on court one.
A&M briefly reclaimed the lead at 3-2 with a pair of wins over ranked singles players. Vinsant topped Diaz 6-4, 6-4 on court two followed by sophomore Jordi Arconada defeating Di Feo 7-6(4), 6-4 on court three. The A&M lead did not last long as moments later Pollanen defeated sophomore AJ Catanzariti 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-0 on court four. The Buckeyes pulled out the victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 win on court five by Steinbach over Withrow.

The Aggies will remain on the road, as they travel to face No. 12 Illinois Sunday followed by the SEC opener at No. 56 Auburn on March 4. The Aggies will return to the Mitchell Tennis Center to take on No. 23 Florida on March 6.
