No. 10 Texas A&M hosts Texas Tech for three-game series
Mar 10, 2016 | Softball
COLLEGE STATION – No. 10 Texas A&M softball will host Texas Tech for its first three-game series of the season at the Aggie Softball Complex beginning Friday.
"I am excited to play a three-game series," head coach Jo Evans said. "We haven't done that all year, so it will be a good chance for our players, especially our freshmen, to come out and recognize that this is what it looks like to play three games in a row that we will have in conference play. I think it will be really good for our ball club to get comfortable with that."
A&M (20-2) is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the San Diego Classic, where the Aggies defeated Boston University, 9-1, in five innings, Grand Canyon, 2-1, and San Diego, 21-0.
Sophomore Kristen Cuyos paces the Aggie offense with her SEC-leading eight home runs, while freshman Keeli Milligan leads the NCAA in stolen bases with 26. In the circle, freshman Samantha Show is 11-2 with a 1.94 ERA and 67 strikeouts. Sophomore Trinity Harrington is 4-0 with a 0.33 ERA and senior Katie Marks is 5-0 with a 1.11 ERA.
The Red Raiders are 10-12 on the season, going 4-2 at the Texas Tech Invitational. Kierra Miles leads the team with a .354 average, six home runs and 16 RBI. Miles is also second on the team in stolen bases with seven. Mattison Maisel is 3-4 in the circle with a team-leading 3.86 ERA and 20 strikeouts.
Texas Tech is led by head coach Adrian Gregory, who was a four-year starter and two-time captain at Texas A&M from 2003-06. Gregory helped lead the Aggies to the 2005 Big 12 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA College Station Super Regional and earned All-Big 12 first team honors in 2004. Gregory finished her career with a .284 batting average with 197 hits, 29 home runs and 33 stolen bases.
"I am really excited that she is coming home," Evans continued. "I am excited that she is a head coach now in a Power 5 conference. I am really proud of her. She was a great player here when she was at A&M. She just embodies the qualities and core values of Aggies everywhere and she has taken that into her program at Texas Tech. I am really proud of her and what she is doing there."
All games can be seen on the SEC Network +, available through WatchESPN and the ESPN app and can be heard locally on KWBC 1550 AM or online at www.RadioAggieland.com.
